Weekly Review 4

I’m sorry I’m a little late on the weekly review, but I totally forgot about it yesterday. No, I won’t promise that this is not going to happen again, because I’m sure it will. I know myself well enough by now, to know that sooner or later I will forget another Wednesday, but for all it matters, I’m sorry.
It was a weird week, with Bavarians, ghosts and bureaucrats. But let’s start on Thursday, a day where nothing remarkable happened… so maybe let’s go right to Bavarians. The Oktoberfest is in Colombo and if there is one thing you can be sure about, it’s that we had to check it out. We went there on Friday and got home early Saturday morning. To say it up front, we liked it quite a lot and we will visit it again. But nevertheless, it’s a very strange feeling to walk into a giant tent next to the Hilton Hotel in Colombo, Sri Lanka to find yourself surrounded by Bavarian music, sausages, beer and everything else that makes an Oktoberfest an Oktoberfest. If you have never heard of the Oktoberfest in Munich, you are probably an alien from space that hasn’t done its homework, so just google it to catch up with the rest of the class. For all the other people who know what I’m talking about and who might have even attended the giant fair in Munich: Colombo really tries to keep up with it. They imported a German chef, a German band and German food and it was all quite good. It was great to see so many different people and cultures dancing and drinking together to mostly German music and having a fun time together. The Oktoberfest lasts from the 28th of October to the 6th of November, which leaves us enough time to attend it again and to get another chance to enjoy the food.
Saturday was the night before Halloween and Louisa invited us to go with her and her boyfriend to a Halloween party at a club. We started the night at the local sports club (the same where we celebrated Steven’s birthday) and after a couple of drinks there, we went to the club. It was a fun evening and Peter even dressed up as the Joker from Batman.
We spend Sunday doing the same thing we do every Sunday… nothing and getting better from the previous nights, although the hangover wasn’t that bad.
Tuesday was football day as usual, and on Wednesday we tried for the first time to get our visas extended. I will write more about it in an extra post (in German) and in next weeks Weekly Review, but let me just say: Sri Lankan bureaucracy can be quite annoying and quite cold.
